Harriet Tubman

Harriet Tubman was special because helped people escape slavery, became a nurse, and later became a spy. She risked her life many times to save others. She was brave and strong willed.

Born in Dorchester County, Maryland, with 8 siblings, she was never free during her childhood because her parents and siblings were slaves. Her siblings got traded away and she was left with her parents. She hit her head on a metal pole at age 15 which resulted in the development of a condition called narcolepsy, which causes the person to fall asleep at random times. Afraid that her owner would find out about her condition and would trade or sell her, leading her to be separated from her family in the process, she ran away. She later returned to try to rescue her parents but they refused, saying that working as slaves was the only way they would be somewhat accepted and that they would not be able to make a life for themselves out in the world.

Harriet Tubman wanted to help others escape slavery and be free. She used the Underground Railway to help others escape but as that way was dangerous, she risked her life a lot to save others. There is myth that she rescued 300 people in 19 trips but we know for sure that she rescued 90 in about 13 trips. That myth may be true but is not proven. She then helped even more people when she became a nurse during the Civil War.

In her life and achievements, Harriet Tubman has inspired others to stand up for themselves and push themselves when things get hard. She is an important figure in our history but isn’t famous like Rosa parks or Marther Luther King Jr. She showed us all that with a little perseverance, you can accomplish anything. Harriet once said, I’d reasoned this out in my mind, there was one of two things I had a right to, liberty or death; if I could not have one, I would have the other.” This shows that she had a lot of perseverance and freedom was high on her priority list.

In conclusion, Harriet Tubman Worked hard to overcome her challenges and risked her life countless times to help others. She worked hard even when she had a hard childhood and was able to achieve great things. We should all be a little like her in a way that makes us all brave, confident, and strong in our own ways.

Is It Okay to Lie?

Everyone has told at least one lie in their lives. Some people could argue that they did it with good intentions. Well,  I am here to talk about lying.

Let's talk about cons first. When you lie, you become more likely to lie again, especially if you have to lie later to keep up your charade. For example, you say that your cousin lives in Washington and you are going to visit him over summer break. Then you will be scared for them to see you because they will know you lied. Also, we listen to others’ lies every day. If everyone lies, then how can we trust one another? For example, you can say “Hey! You know what I learned today? I learned that there is only 500 fish species in the ocean.” Your friend looks online and finds there are 33,600 species. How will your friend trust info that you tell them again?

Now pros. You may lie to get out of an uncomfortable situation, to make someone feel better, or to protect them from harm. For example, a teen may be left alone at home and someone knocks on the door and asks if his/her parents are home. The child may say yes to keep themselves safe from potential danger. There are also lots of games where you have to lie or bluff to win. Some examples are poker and the game royal bluff. You have to lie to trick others into losing. Also, how many times has someone asked you how was your day or how are you and you answered “good thank you,” when your day isn’t that good?

Lying is the way of our society. We lie almost every day. Plus, some lies are harmless. They don’t affect anyone. Imagine that everyone said only the truth? We would seem so grumpy to other societies because we would always say that we are having a bad day.  You may say a white lie which means that it is harmless or better yet, helpful and good. In some countries it is normal to lie and in others it would be considered rude. In Russia for example, people don’t smile to each other as they pass or say good morning or good afternoon. We may think that is rude but they may think we are weird for actually doing that.

Earth vs Humans

People can cause some problems but can also solve them. Global warming, water pollution, and wildfires are examples of what humans caused but can also fix.

One way to fix global warming is first to figure out what the causes it. Well, the carbon dioxide that comes from burned fully and heating. A way to fix it, you can switch to solar power for your house. Electric cars are also a solution. That same carbon dioxide is causing air pollution. If you drive out to california and visit valleys, stand on a peak and you will have a high chance of seeing the effect of air pollution. You will see a dark gray cloud above the city. In the city, you will feel hotter than in the rest of the country    Another problem is water pollution. People throw away their trash and the trash can get blown into the ocean. To stop that, you can recycle and not let dirty water from your car drain to the ocean and instead get soaked up by grass. You may have walked on a beach and saw bottles, bags, and other trash. Let’s help stop that from spreading more.

One last problem is wildfires. They are caused when someone leaves a fire unattended, and/or doesn’t put it out fully. You can prevent wildfires by making sure that if you light a fire pit, to put it out fully when you leave, and report any and all unattended fires

you see. I for one have see wildfires close to me and have seen the damage up close. I have felt the heat of those fires. Those fires can burn through forests in hours. Yes these fires help some plants grow, but not in these numbers. In these numbers, we are losing lives, animals, and forest. Firemen risk their lives to put out those fires

Inconclution, let's help stop these unfortunate events!!!

 Aliens

By: Pary Lin

NASA scientists believe that future explorers will find other life in space. Kids in school may be the future of this planet. (Why?)

Some reasons why scientist think that aliens are real because of a ufo sighting that happened in October 1015 by navy fighter pilot,  signs that aliens are living one of Jupiter's many moons, signs that aliens are trying to contact us and so much more. There are also tons of videos on the internet. I watched the video on the first website below and think it is real. What do you think?

The second website below contains some videos that may or may not prove that aliens are real. However, some people don’t believe in aliens. Some people are like me. If you don’t see it, you don’t believe. Well if you don’t believe, here is a website for you. Scientists think that maybe, aliens could have visited us before.

Video or no video, this is an eternal debate.

Are there aliens? Or are we the only ones out

there?  Check out the links at the bottom of the

page for more info.
